As part of Johnson Controls Building Efficiency business, the Controls & Systems Engineering team applies this mission to buildings, providing solutions for a more comfortable, safe, and balanced building environment for owners and occupants. This individual will be joining the team that develops sophisticated controls for Chillers and Smart Building products used by our customers to run their buildings and lead their energy costs. Work as part of a close-knit team of experienced engineers to apply and improve your engineering development skills to develop applications, products, and tools. How you will do it:
As a member of the Controls & Systems Engineering team, the candidate will assist the engineers in developing, testing, and supporting controls for Chiller Solutions' products. This individual must be an analytical problem solver and must be disciplined in applying robust design methodologies and engineering principles (modeling, simulation, statistics, data acquisition etc.) to develop and realize solutions. This individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently but must also be able to interact directly with electronics engineers, mechanical engineers, software developers, systems engineers, and research engineers to develop system wide solutions. This position will take general direction from the Director of Controls Engineering. This role will actively work with peers and specialists across different teams to meet shared product achievements. In addition, the position will be responsible as lead for sophisticated projects, which will involve implementation, the delegation of work to participating control team members, reviewing work products, and mentoring junior engineers. Work with team members and leads to build and implement to mid-range and long-term roadmaps for products, including hardware architecture and sophisticated features, including integration of IoT technology. Harden and deploy a technology roadmap that harmonizes platforms and drives re-use of standard shared control components across products. Act as a domain expert on all aspects of model-based systems engineering, including developing simulation & analysis methods to generate robust requirements and models for HVAC controls. Mentor other specialists in the use of innovative model-based design tools and methodologies to accelerate development and increase efficiency by improving design re-use and reducing refactoring across applications. What we look for:
Strong communication (verbal and written) skills A qualified individual shall have a minimum of BS and MS degrees in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Ten (10) years of experience in Model-Based System Engineering. Demonstrated ability to develop, document & institutionalize new engineering tools & processes Experience integrating Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA), and other Safety-centric quality methodologies into the development life cycle. Strong team-building skills to support the fast-paced product delivery methodologies. Proven dedication to the mentoring and technical development of other Engineering staff, with experience as a role model in a collaborative development environment. Sophisticated skills and significant experience in MATLAB/Simulink tooling with ten (10) years of experience using model-based design framework in an embedded systems environment, driving standard methodologies to take advantage of automation, optimization, and toolchain evolution. Ability to work successfully in and promote an agile engineering workplace. Additionally, knowledge of commercial HVAC/Building Automation Systems and/or equipment is helpful. Willingness to travel depending on team requirements. Salary Range:
$150K -- $200K
